NEW YORK, NY (September 10, 2024) – Westbeth Artists Housing, the renowned artists housing complex in the heart of the West Village, announced today that The New School signed a 10-year lease to remain in its 20,000-square-foot space. The School of Drama at The New School has been located within Westbeth’s complex since 2003. Westbeth was represented by Denham Wolf Real Estate Services’ Christopher Turner, Kate Hrobsky and Lauren Davis who negotiated the lease agreement and are handling leasing for other available commercial spaces within Westbeth. The New School was represented by David Hollander, Larry Weiss, and Maxwell Tarter of CBRE.

Located along Bank Street, the more than 20,000-square-foot space spans three stories, featuring a double-height theater room on the top floor, classrooms, set and costume studios, and offices. Originally home to Bell Laboratories, the historic space was built in 1929 and used for early sound film experiments.

“Westbeth prides itself on being a diverse and creative arts enclave, and counting The New School as a long term member of our community deeply enriches our campus,” said Peter Madden, Executive Director of Westbeth Artists Housing. “We are proud to offer a space where the performing arts can thrive when they have the right partners who invest and care about the communities in which they are rooted.”

Westbeth sits just south of the world-famous Meatpacking District and the southern entry point to the High Line. To the west is the flourishing Hudson River Park which features local attractions including Gansevoort Beach, Little Island and Pier 51. Offering tenants the opportunity to immerse themselves in a rarely available artistic enclave in the heart of the West Village, Westbeth provides an ideal environment for collaboration and creativity, with leasing opportunities for office, retail and commercial space available across the campus.
